2010 Stashbuster WIPs and WHIMMs Challenge

"If you are a start to finish quilter, or have some start to finish projects, this is the
challenge for you.
You do not have to start your quilt in 2010.  It just has to be a project that you have been steadily working on and finish in 2010.  Many start to finish projects with complicated patterns, or many tiny pieces, take forever to finish, but, they are not a UFO.
Your WIP may NOT be on your UFO list."

"If you are a start to finish quilter, or have some start to finish projects, this is the
challenge for you.
You do not have to start your quilt in 2010.  It just has to be a project that you have been steadily working on and finish in 2009.  Many start to finish projects with complicated patterns, or many tiny pieces, take forever to finish, but, they are not a UFO.
Your WIP may NOT be on your UFO list."

This challenge is to encourage us to  finish up our current WIPs and WHIMMs, having a little extra motivational fun while doing so!

A WIP is a "Work In Progress", distinguished from an UFO, because you keep working on it till it's done.

A WHIMM is a "Work Hidden In My Mind" that you'd really like to put into action!

In between the two, of course, a WHIMM usually becomes a PIG ("Project In Grocery sack"), so those count, too--"WIPs and WHIMMs" just sounds a lot catchier than adding PIGs in there with them!  :)

Any project you make for this challenge can be from a kit, from your stash, or from new fabrics.

This challenge is running from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010.

To sign up for this challenge, send fourteen (14)   2 ½" x 22" strips (cut from two fat quarters), or seven (7)  2 ½" x WOF strips to me, along with postage equal to what is required to get your strips to me (must be stamps, not metered!) to mail out the quarterly winnings and year-end winnings.   If you are outside of the US, you may send a fat quarter in place of postage.  E-mail me, Ann Fry,  for mailing address.   When you mail them to me PLEASE enclose your name, e-mail and address. I can NOT confirm their safe arrival and record you as part of the challenge without this information!

The strips you send in will be used for motivational prizes.  Each time you finish a qualifying project, let me know, and your name will go to the top of the list, so everyone can see that you're a finisher(!), and your name will also be entered into a quarterly drawing (4 a year).  The more projects you finish, the more times your name goes into the bucket.  At the end of the 3 month period we will draw a name, and that person will win a portion of the strips collected.  All these names will be moved on to the bucket for the final drawing.

At the end of the year, one person will win all the strips left over.  (If there is a huge number of strips, I reserve the right to have more than one winner.)  The winner is determined by a drawing, not by who finishes the most projects.  To enter to win one of the quarterly drawings, you will need to finish a project during that period.  I will wait one week past the end of each quarter to do the drawing, to ensure that everyone has sent me their completions.   If you wait longer than that, your completion will be entered for the next quarter.

Anything that contains quilting (quilted purse, jacket, pillow cushions, etc.) counts for this challenge, when it is totally finished.

These should be your projects (not things you are quilting for others for pay.)  Charity quilts, at least twin size or larger, finished by someone else, can count as long as you do all the piecing.  I know a lot of guilds utilize group effort in getting quilts made and finished for charity.

What constitutes done?  Done is completely done, not just the top done, except as outlined in the preceding paragraph.  So this  means quilting, binding, and labels on!  In other words, the project should be completely finished and ready to use or give away.   If you get rid of a PIG or WIP--give it away, throw it away, abandon it and reassimilate the fabric into your stash, these projects can be taken off your list, but they don't count as a finish for this challenge.  If a project becomes two or more finished projects, each will count as a finish.  However, if two or more projects are combined into one project, that will count as one finish.  You will get an extra point for any quilt 50" x 65" or larger, which you make completely by yourself (piecing, quilting, binding, etc.).  So, be sure to tell me the size of any quilts you finish, and if you've done all of the work on them or not.  I can't give you the extra point, if I don't know you've earned it!

When you complete a project, you are encouraged to e-mail the list, but be sure you also CC me, Ann Fry.   Please have the subject say something about a finished WIP or WHIMM.  You can also mark it down in the database created for this challenge (add one to your completed total, and mark it done behind where you listed it). The list on the database is mostly for you as a participant, and is optional.  I will go to the official WIPs and WHIMMs  list in the files and move you to the top of the list and mark the date you completed your last project.  I will also enter you in one time for the quarterly drawing, and one time for the end of the year drawing.  With the large volume of posts to the list, an email to me is the most accurate method to ensure I get your finish information!!  I will save every WIPs and WHIMMs  finish email to back up each quarter’s finish list.
